Interstate

The highway has produced the American space, created entire landscapes that are designed for joy riders. The highway is becoming a "common place" and more and more often a space for socializing and entertainment, the last refuge for privacy and "encounters" with nature.
The film was shot with a still camera rather a film camera, and the sound-track was downloaded from the internet and not recorded on location.

In dieser Montage aus Tausenden von einzeln aufgenommenen Photos, die - minutiös montiert - den Eindruck von einer Art Film vermitteln, dominiert die Landschaft die Szene als Still-Leben-Hintergrund für das gespenstische Auftauchen, Verschwinden und Dröhnen von Autos, Trucks und Motorrädern, ohne irgendeinen Hinweis auf Kontinuität der Bewegungen zu geben, die man erwarten würde. Eingebaute Wiederholungsschleifen sind das Echo des Bewegungsparadoxons von Zenon, angedeutet durch Fragmentierung und Wiederholung, die die Atmosphäre eines Teufelskreises in heftiger Rotation vermitteln.

In this montage of thousands of individually taken photographs, meticulously sewn together, generating the impression of an actual film of sorts, the landscape dominates the scenery as a still-life background to eerily appearing and disappearing cars, trucks and motorcycles, with no clue to a continuity one might expect. In-built loops echo the paradoxon of movement, as described by Zenon, hinted at by way of both fragmentation and repetition that air the feeling of a viscious circle in heated rotation.
