Magdalena Chmielewska

Magdalena Chmielewska

Director and screenwriter of Polish origin, based in Vienna. Her films have been shown at international film festivals and have won among others the First Steps Award from the German Film Academy as well as the Max Ophüls Prize for Best Director. Her cinematic style, blending raw emotion, physicality, and sensuality, earned her recognition as one of Europe’s ten best young directors at the 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In her films, she tells stories shaped by desire, the past, and a socio-economic context. She graduated from the Filmakademie Wien. In addition to her filmmaking work, she is also a lecturer in directing actors.
