Eye to Eye

Not close enough! Come closer, don't be so shy! Closer, closer, no, wait, that's too close. Please go away... Oh no, come back! The desire for connection, understanding, and love is a central feeling of humanity. Sometimes this pursuit leads to tragedy, sometimes to happiness, and sometimes it is a painful fusion of both. Is happiness worth the pain? Is it better to experience physical closeness and lose it over time, or never touch another soul again? The directors featured in the program—from Siegfried A. Fruhauf and Maria Lassnig to Marie Luise Lehner and Kurdwin Ayub—explore the complexity of emotional and physical intimacy. (Yasmina Subaieva)
