Film and _ is an open invitation to exchange: the format is explicitly dedicated to artist film and its interrelations with other visual, applied and time-based art forms.

In everyday life, we tend to encounter architectural structures as immutable entities. Through cinematic techniques—the camera, editing, and sound design—these built environments become fluid: viewed from different perspectives, explored in detail, imbued with drama, playfully repurposed, examined for their political context, deconstructed, and reassembled:

Carl Appel, Wohn-Hochhaus cleverly uses the vertical axis of an elevator ride for cinematic exploration. As if with fluttering eyelids, the custom-built camera in Untitled (34bsp) makes a light-filled space shimmer. The building itself is never shown completely—and in TESTA’s composition, too, an image of the National Library in Buenos Aires emerges only in the viewers’ minds. In Minimal Vandalism, a subcultural practice leaves its mark; Borgate, on the other hand, examines a historically significant (residential) site; and CONCRETE FILM places an architectural icon in a surprising relationship with its surroundings. Marblemumbles also tricks the eye regarding the dimensions of the blocks, and 10104 Angelo View Drive delightfully “queers” a mid-century residence with film-set potential.
